Las Vegas bets on Da Vinci Ways

In what is being hailed as the biggest art bet in history, casino magnate Steve Wynn is putting up $139 million to acquire Leonardo da Vinci's "Salvator Mundi." The painting is currently on display at Christie's auction house in New York City, with bidding set to close on Wednesday, November 15.

The 27-inch by 31-inch painting of Jesus Christ was completed in around 1500 and was sold for a mere £45 ($68) in 1958 before being acquired by a consortium of dealers who later sold it to King Saud bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia. It has been estimated that the painting is now worth as much as $400 million.

While other bidders are said to be interested in the painting, Wynn is considered the front runner due to his long history of supporting the arts. In 2006, he donated over $100 million to create the Wynn Las Vegas Art Museum.

"I am thrilled that we will have the opportunity to own this extraordinary masterpiece," Wynn said in a statement. "The experience of looking at this picture is indescribable."

Chris paddle, deputy chairman of Christie's Americas, said "Salvator Mundi" is "the holy grail of all paintings." So far, it has generated more than three times the amount achieved by any work ever sold at auction.

Gaming industry bets big on Da Vinci Ways

The gaming industry is booming and companies are looking for new ways to entice players. One such way is through the use of Leonardo da Vinci's art and inventions.

There are already a few games that incorporate da Vinci's work, including Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed series. The latest installment, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, uses many of da Vinci's inventions, including the flying machine and submarine.

Ubisoft isn't the only company jumping on the da Vinci bandwagon. A team of game developers in Brazil has created a game called Da Vinci's Challenge. The game tasks players with building contraptions based on da Vinci's sketches.

Even Apple is getting in on the action. Earlier this year, the company released an update for its iPad that features augmented reality versions of some of da Vinci's most famous paintings.

Why all the fuss over da Vinci? I think it has to do with his universal appeal. He was a genius in so many different fields: painting, sculpture, architecture, engineering, etc. Players can experience a little bit of that genius in games like Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Da Vinci's Challenge.

It will be interesting to see how developers continue to use da Vinci in their games. I imagine we'll see more games that incorporate his inventions as well as his art. I can't wait to see what they come up with!
